Disclosure: I’m an ambassador for the Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon. As such, I receive consideration from some of the sponsors of the event, such as Publix. All opinions are my own.
Fast food is the worst. And I’m the worst about fast food. Most of the time, I’m flying out the door unprepared. At some point in the day my blood sugar takes a nosedive and I need food, NOW. So I hit the nearest drive-thru and then hate all of it later – what the food does to me and the cash I just wasted on it.
I’m trying to be better about prepping some healthy snacks for on the go that I can grab and avoid that fast food run. I’m ramping up my training for the Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon and I need to eat better. I headed to my nearest Publix for inspiration!
My youngest wanted some Lunchables for the upcoming week. While I was grabbing a few of those, I noticed the more “grown up” form. These healthy snacks are great for grabbing when you are running out the door. Plenty of protein with portion control built in.
The above snacks add some dried fruit into the mix. As usual, I was running out the door for my physical therapy appointment and I was hungry. I grabbed one of these healthy snacks for on the go and ate it in the car on the way. It gave me just what I needed until I could come home for lunch!
Chips and (healthy) Dips
Guacamole, salsa and hummus are all great healthy snack options! High in protein and full of the “good” fat. Sure, you could buy the larger containers and parcel it out yourself; that would be cheaper. But if the convenience factor is more important to you, these healthy snacks for on the go fit the bill. I’ve even seen these in some of the lunch boxes of my preschool class!
Tuna has advanced in the flavor department. I chose these three but there were plenty of other flavor options and all of them had calorie and protein stats labeled on the front of the pouch. If you want a snack, eat these plain or with crackers. If you need something more, add some salad ingredients and you’ve got a meal! These don’t require refrigeration so they’re perfect healthy snacks for on the go.
My youngest son loves these cheese rounds! I love that I can just throw them in his lunch box without slicing and packaging. There are several varieties of cheese available and they are great for portion control.
What I like best about dried fruit is that it can be used so many ways. Of course, it can be eaten just the way it is. But I like to throw some on top of cereal, over a salad or in non-flavored or vanilla yogurt. Kids like it, too! These can be great to keep in a pocket during a run for some quick fuel. No refrigeration needed, so these could be good to keep in the car for healthy snacks for on the go.
These kind of healthy snacks for on the go are my ultimate back up plan. No refrigeration, no utensils and they are packaged to travel. Energy bars, sometimes referred to as protein bars, come in so many different flavors there is sure to be something you like. These are my go-to for when I am running late and I just need something to throw in my purse for later. I’ve been known to keep these in my car to avoid the drive-thru.
