Although the Dunwoody Nature Center is about a 30 minute drive from my house, my family makes that trip a few times a year. We love the simplicity of the DNC. There is a long creek with huge rocks in it where my kids love to wade and see if they can catch crawfish. We walk the marshy boardwalk where we see how many frogs we can spot. Enjoy the view from the treehouse. Wear ourselves out at an epic playground. There is also a discovery center with nature books and some hands-on play items. But when you throw in the Dunwoody Butterfly Festival? It’s a don’t miss.
This year the Dunwoody Butterfly Festival is on August 19th from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Two huge tents filled with free-roaming butterflies will be set up for your family to wander and explore. Also included in the festival fun is a Birds of Prey show, music, magic and animal encounters.
If purchased prior to August 13th, tickets are $8.00 for adults, $4.00 for children 4-12 and free for kids 3 and under. After August 13th tickets are $10 for adults and $5.00 for children. Entries to the butterfly tent are limited to time slots, so purchase your tickets early to pick the most convenient time for you to visit!
There is no on-site parking save for limited handicapped spots, but there will be a shuttle service from North Atlanta Church of Christ located at 5676 Roberts Drive.
School is back in session, but that’s no reason to not grab every last bit of family fun out of this summer!
